Career objectives

A consistent goal has guided my design endeavors throughout my career: crafting creations that wield a positive influence on individuals. Whether through the artistry of silversmithing and glassblowing, where I shape aesthetics to evoke positive reactions through form and shine, or in the realm of POS displays, where my designs captivate onlookers and draw them towards the showcased products. Museum design, however, elevates this objective to new heights. Through the integration of engaging interactives, stimulating visuals, and educational elements, I aim to not only entertain, but also provoke thought, taking the impact of design to a whole new level.

Personal Motivations

I’ve always found inspiration and joy in nature and the great outdoors. As a passionate mountain biker, hiker, canoer, and camper, I am constantly driven by the urge to see what’s around the corner, over the next hill, or on the other side of the lake. ecifically, the combination of rough natural rock wrapped in organic growth, roots, and moss is something I find wonderful. I can stare at its intricate details for hours.

I have been fortunate to travel to many different locations, including the Indian Himalayas, french Phineas, Alps and other parts of weston Europe, Canadian Rockies and Russia, where I witnessed incredible sights and contrasting cultures .

Background

Growing up in a creative world

My father was a Design and Technology teacher before starting a company designing and manufacturing table wargaming products. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to learn many different methods of design and manufacturing, including centrifugal casting, injection molding, vacuum forming and resin casting & mold making. My mother was also highly influential in my development, teaching me graphic design and photography. With my family company, I travelled round the UK selling products at trade shows. Early on in life, I was already addicted to learning more about design and new methods of manufacturing!

Glassblowing

At the age of 15, I started my journey into the world of glassblowing by assisting the exceptionally talented Ingrid Pears MBE at her studio located in the heart of Sherwood Forest, UK, during weekends. It was here that I acquired the skills of shaping molten glass at a scorching 1200 degrees Celsius and conducting engaging glassblowing demonstrations for the public.

University & Silversmithing

During my academic pursuits, I stumbled upon the captivating art of silversmithing, becoming fascinated by the meticulous craftsmanship of precious metals like gold and silver, as well as working with brass and copper while experimenting with electroplating techniques. My mentors, Marcus and Peter, played a pivotal role in shaping my creative development. Following graduation, I embarked on my career as a Silversmith at Yorkshire Artspace in Sheffield, UK, where I successfully completed prestigious commissions, including the “Little Gems” project and a commemorative piece for Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee celebrations (refer to Portfolio), seamlessly integrating silversmithing with the art of glassblowing. In 2011, I participated in a month-long exhibition and creative exploration in the Himalayas as part of a UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) trade mission to New Delhi, India.

Design & Manufacturing career

Since 2013, I have been employed as an Industrial Designer, engaging in various roles and catering to diverse industries ranging from defence to Point of Sale (POS). I have collaborated with renowned brands such as Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, L’Oréal, Rimmel London, Speedo, Apple, and many others. In 2017, I relocated from the UK to Ottawa, Canada, where I delved into the realm of Museum Exhibition design and fabrication. I derive immense satisfaction from my contributions to museums, where I showcase educational content in a dynamic and thought-provoking manner, while creating enjoyable experience.
